Throughout the years, skiers have found new ways to access terrain. Until recently accessing terrain outside of resorts was nearly impossible. With the invention of the helicopter, skiers were able to access completely new terrain. Heli-skiing is a growing industry that helps people ski some unbelievable terrain.

Winter is almost here! Across the country all the major resorts are preparing for opening day. Many resorts have already started blowing snow. In New England, Sugarloaf and Sunday River have both been open for a few weeks. I was able to ski briefly on Sunday for a few hours at Sugarloaf. The conditions weren't bad and it felt amazing to finally be back on skis. Things are already looking good for the 2012-2013 season. Places out west have already received a few feet of snow! The first ski ever found was discovered in Greenland in 2004. The ski was almost a thousand years old. The two main types of skiing are alpine and Nordic. This blog will focus on alpine skiing. Alpine skiing is something that I've been doing for my whole life. I've learned so much through skiing and I'd like to share some things about skiing with you.

There are many different types of alpine skiing. There is ski racing, freestyle skiing, and back country skiing. While ski racing is all about making it through a course in the fastest time possible, freestyle skiing is all about trying to do the coolest tricks in the air. Back country skiing is really about having fun. It involves rigorous hikes to ski some terrain this is very different than what you would see on a resort. Do you ski?
